68 roaches, blood on the floor, live rats cited in August DFW health inspections
The Star-Telegram keeps track of every health inspection report for Tarrant and Dallas counties. August held some notable citations.
Reports of blood on the floor of a meat market; roach, fly and cricket infestations; and moldy ice machines and coolers sum up August’s health inspection reports for the metroplex.
Here’s a complete roundup of the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in August.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County Public Health uses an inspection format that considers 100 as the highest possible score, with a score of 70 considered extremely poor. Restaurants scoring below 70 require a follow-up inspection.
Notable reports include:
Foodistaan at 2140 E Southlake Blvd. in Southlake scored under 70 due to a roach infestation. Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant at 7344 Baker Blvd. in Richland Hills had reports of mold in a reach in cooler. And Lina Street Food at 2208 Central Drive in Bedford scored low due to rodent droppings and chewed through bags of flour.

Fort Worth
Fort Worth’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system. Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. Restaurants with more than 30 demerits are required to fix the worst problems immediately and remedy the rest within 48 hours.
Notable reports include blood found on the floor of Afghan Meat Market at 1341 E. Seminary Drive. Cousin’s Bar-B-Q at 6262 McCart Ave. and Quick Track #5 at 801 E. Allen Ave. had reports of rodent droppings. And Szechuan Chinese Restaurant at 5712 Locke Ave. had flies present in the kitchen.

Arlington
Arlington restaurants are scored on a 100-point system, with 100 being a perfect score. Restaurants and other places that serve food that score 75 or less require a follow-up inspection, and a score of 70 is considered extremely poor.
Notable reports include Rubi’s Restaurant at 941 W. Pioneer Parkway and Asian Bowl at 285 Southwest Plaza. Both had employees not wearing gloves or washing their hands. And Mahogany’s Chop House and Lounge at 1700 W. Park Row Drive had reports of roach infestation.

Dallas
Dallas’ health inspections function on a 100-point system. A score of 100 is considered perfect and scores below 70 are considered failing, with reinspection required within 10 days.
Notable reports include Fuel Stop at 5816 Keeneland Parkway with a “large pot of moldy menudo soup in a walk-in cooler.” GoPuff at 6955 Greenville Avenue had reports of a live rat in a rodent trap. And Stratos Bar & Grill at 2907 W. Northwest Highway had reports of moldy utensils and food stored without expiration labels.

Plano
Plano’s restaurant inspections function on a 100-point system: A score of 100 is perfect, and 70 is considered extremely poor. Each food establishment receives between one and four routine inspections per year.
Notable reports include Sushi Town at 2201 W. 15th St. which had dead crickets. Sindbad Burger at 2400 K Ave. Ste B, had a repeat violation for unsafe food storage temperatures. Everest Indian Himalayan Restaurant and Bar at 2300 McDermott Road had reports of flies, roaches and rodents chewing through a bag of sugar. And Town Desis at 6832 Coit Road had infestation of 68 roaches and over 30 flies.

Frisco
Frisco’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system: Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. When an establishment has more than 30 demerits, the inspector may close the location at their discretion. That decision is based on the nature of violations, the establishment’s history and other risk factors.
A notable report from this round of health inspections included Texas Pho House at 9144 Prestmont Place, which had mold in the ice machine and a live roach near the water heater.
