Roaches & rodent droppings found during recent Fort Worth restaurant inspection

Two Fort Worth restaurants had high demerit scores, and roaches and rodent droppings were found at others, according to recent inspection reports.

City data compiled by the Star-Telegram includes the results of 284 inspections conducted Aug. 10-23.

Fort Worth’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system. Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. Restaurants with over 30 demerits are required to fix the worst problems immediately and remedy the rest within 48 hours.

Two food establishments received over 30 demerits during this inspection cycle.

  • Savers Cost Plus, at 2708 W. Seminary Drive, scored 33 demerits, after inspectors observed food stored at unsafe temperatures, cross contamination, dirty equipment and flies in the meat area.
  • Szechuan Chinese Restaurant, at 5712 Locke Ave., scored 31 demerits after inspectors observed food stored at unsafe temperatures, potentially hazardous food stored in the cold-storage units, and flies present in the kitchen area.

Four restaurants had high demerit scores:

  • Y & H Stop N Save, at 2912 Vaughn Blvd. Score: 26.
  • Barrios Taqueria, at 12400 South Freeway, Burleson. Score: 25.
  • Best Donuts, at 1201 Longhorn Road, Suite 137. Score: 25.
  • La Michoacana Plus, at 243 NE 28th Street. Score: 26.

Rodent droppings were observed at:

Cousin’s Bar-B-Q, at 6262 McCart Ave. Health inspectors observed rodents dropping by the dry storage area where bulk packages of flour were stored. The eatery scored 22.

Roaches were observed at three restaurants:

  • Little Caesars Pizza, at 8615 S. Hulen St., Suite 117. Score: 17.
  • Jack In The Box, at 8513 S. Hulen St. Score: 10.
  • Subway, at 8556 S. Hulen St. Score: 7.

When the total exceeds 30, the restaurant must take immediate corrective action on all identified critical violations, then has 48 hours to initiate corrective action on all other violations.
