The Johnson County sheriff has been arrested and charged with abusing his office and retaliating against a witness, according to WFAA-TV.

Sheriff Adam King was arrested by the Texas Rangers on Wednesday and booked into his own jail, WFAA reported. King is charged with two felony counts of retaliation against a witness and one misdemeanor count of abuse of office related to sexual harassment.

The indictments are the culmination of a weeks-long investigation by the Texas Rangers, Johnson County judge Christopher Boedeker told WFAA.

“As soon as county officials were made aware of the allegations, we referred the case to the Texas Rangers for an independent investigation,” Boedeker said. “While Mr. King is entitled to a presumption of innocence, no person is above the law.”

King is serving his third term as sheriff; he was elected to the office in 2016, 2020, and again in 2024.

Additional information about the crimes King is accused of was not immediately available Wednesday night.
