Roach infestation found during Tarrant County restaurant inspections, 3 closed

Three Tarrant County restaurants were temporarily closed due to serious health violations, including roach infestation at one, the county inspection reports show.

This report compiled by the Star-Telegram includes health violations from Aug 10- 23. There were 304 inspections conducted during this inspection cycle.

Tarrant County Public Health has transitioned to a new inspection report format. A perfect score was 0 demerits under the old system. The new system considers 100 as the highest possible score, and 70 is considered extremely poor. Restaurants scoring below 70 require a follow-up inspection.

Three restaurants were closed for serious health violations:

  • Top Sushi & Grill, at 7001 Confederate Park Road, Suite 106 in Lakeside, was voluntarily closed due to lack of hot water and scored 54. The restaurant reopened with an updated score of 96.
  • Foodistaan, at 2140 E Southlake Blvd., Suite B in Southlake scored 68 and was voluntarily closed due to a roach infestation. The eatery was able to reopen after a second follow-up, the updated score was 86.
  • Chavelas, at 500 W Berry St. in Fort Worth, was temporarily closed by county health inspectors due to inadequate refrigeration. The initial inspection score was 76, the eatery was able to reopen after follow-up inspection and scored 100.

In addition to Foodistaan, health inspectors observed roaches at two other restaurants:

  • A1 Pho And Grill, at 4228 E Belknap, Suite 104, Haltom City. Score: 85.
  • Goldfish Sushi, at 4613 Denton Highway, Haltom City. Score: 91.

Three food establishments had issues with rodents or rodent droppings:

  • Incredible Burger, at 1101 Melbourne Road, Suite 2303 in Hurst. Health inspectors observed rat feces on buckets and cup carriers. Score 71.
  • Subway, at 429 Bedford Road in Bedford, rodent feces were found around the bottom of the hot water heater. Score: 89.
  • Lake Worth High School, at 4210 Boat Club Road in Lake Worth. Health inspectors observed rodent droppings in the corners on the floors. Score: 92.
