Nearly 70 roaches found at Plano restaurant during inspection; 2 closed

Almost 70 roaches were found at a Plano restaurant, which was closed along with another establishment during Aug. 17-30 health inspections, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

Hello! India at 8740 Ohio Drive received a low score of 63 on Aug. 28 and was closed for several critical health violations. The certified food manager wasn’t familiar with food safety procedures, and it wasn’t clear if all employees had completed the required food handler training course.

The inspector found dirty dishes from the previous day on the floor and observed roaches in the kitchen area. Hello! India requires a follow-up inspection to reopen.

Town Desis at 6832 Coit Road scored 72 on Aug. 28 and was closed due to a roach infestation and other health violations. The inspector counted 68 cockroaches in the kitchen and more than 30 flies. Two pots of raw chicken and a bucket of cooked food were found cooling on the floor.

Some foods weren’t held at a safe temperature, and some meat wasn’t being thawed properly. Town Desis will require a follow-up inspection to reopen.

The city of Plano scores restaurants on a 100-point system, with 100 considered a perfect score and 70 extremely poor. Hello! India was the only facility to score below 70 on the recent inspections. Six other locations, including Town Desis, scored below 80.

Cafe Istanbul at 7300 Lone Star Drive scored 72 on Aug. 27. The can opener mounted on the prep table had a dirty blade, an employee touched food with his bare hands and there was no thermometer for checking internal food temperature.

Sushi Masa at 6101 W. Park Blvd. scored 72 on Aug. 25. The inspector noted two containers of chicken held at an unsafe temperature, a dirty ice machine and fried shrimp not labeled with the preparation and discard date.

Oishii Parkwood at 8448 Parkwood Blvd. scored 75 on Aug. 18. Some foods weren’t being held at a safe temperature, several chemical bottles weren’t labeled and a roach was seen on the kitchen floor.

Goc Vietnam at 109 Legacy Drive scored 79 on Aug. 27. Raw meat was stored above ready-to-eat vegetables in the cooler, several employees didn’t have Texas food handler cards and employee drinks and personal items were found in the food prep area.

New Main Street Eatery at 7200 Bishop Road scored 79 on Aug. 19. Some food was stored on the floor in the freezer, there was no soap at one of the hand sinks and food debris was found on the outside of some of the equipment.
