3 Fort Worth restaurants closed; inspections find dirty toilet, rodents, roaches

Three Fort Worth restaurants were temporarily closed for health violations including rodents, roaches, dirty toilets and sewage issues, according to recent inspection reports.

City data compiled by the Star-Telegram includes the results of 145 inspections conducted between July 26 and Aug 2.

Fort Worth’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system. Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. Restaurants with over 30 demerits are required to fix the worst problems immediately and remedy the rest within 48 hours.

Three eateries were temporarily closed due to serious violations:

  • Sakura Sushi and Asian Cuisine, at 6399 Camp Bowie Blvd., scored 20 demerits and was closed after health inspectors observed issues with the sewage system. The restaurant opened after a follow-up inspection but was cited for roaches with a new score of 12.
  • Quick Track #5, at 801 E. Allen Ave., was closed due to various health hazards including no thermometer inside a refrigerator; rodent droppings under a microwave, inside cabinets and on shelves; inadequate hand-cleaning supplies and a dirty hand sink and toilet. Health inspectors also observed trash, litter and debris throughout the property. The store scored 12.
  • Little Caesars Pizza #3305-0001, at 6504 Camp Bowie Blvd., scored 6 and was temporarily closed because hot water was not adequate to wash hands or dishes. The restaurant passed the follow-up inspection.

Three restaurants had high scores during this inspection cycle:

  • The Original Del Norte, at 1400 N. Main St. Score: 29.
  • New Day Cafe Brunch House, at 4601 Boat Club Road, Ste 101. Score: 27.
  • Yogi’s Bagel Cafe, at 2710 S Hulen St. Score: 26.

Roaches were observed at the following restaurants:

  • New Day Cafe Brunch House, at 4601 Boat Club Road, Ste 101. Score: 27.
  • Sushi Axiom Hibachi & Bar, at 12650 South Fwy, Ste A. Score: 19. The inspector also found a dead rodent on a glue trap in a dry storage shed.
  • Little Caesars Pizza #1309-0003, at 4729 River Oaks Blvd. Score: 15.
