285 pounds of marijuana seized during North Texas traffic stop, police say
Lewisville police confiscated 285 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop this week, police said in a news release.
An officer found the drugs while conducting a routine traffic stop on a car with expired registration and no insurance on Sunday, Aug. 3, police said.
The Texas Transportation Code prohibits a person from operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with expired registration and without insurance, according to the release.
Police said the officer informed the driver that the vehicle would be towed due to the lack of insurance.
While conducting an inventory of the vehicle, the officer smelled marijuana, which gave him probable cause to search the vehicle further, according to the release.
During the search, officers discovered and seized 285 pounds of marijuana from a sealed compartment within the vehicle.
“A significant amount that will never make it to the streets of our community,” police said in the release.
Police have not shared further details about arrests related to the seizure.
