Sushi is my favorite food on this whole planet. But, it’s not always the cheapest meal.

When I saw MK Sushi posted to the Fort Worth Foodies Facebook group — and saw the comments raving about not just their food, but their prices and service, as well — I had to try it out for myself.

I arrived on a Wednesday in July, right when their happy hour began at 4:30 p.m. I was the only one in the restaurant and the staff of eight treated me so well, I sat down and paid the bill all within 20 minutes.

Their happy hour offers good options all under $15. So clearly, our $20 budget is very doable.

For food during happy hour, they have appetizers, rolls and salads. For drinks, they have $9.50 martinis and $7.35 glasses of wine. You can get a well beer or sake for just $4.75.

If I wasn’t commuting home, I could have fit a glass of wine or sake in my budget. However, safety comes first, and I stuck with water.

Here’s what I got.

If I see shishito peppers on a menu, I simply have to get them. And MK Sushi’s did not disappoint. They were perfectly charred with a great umami flavor– no sauce needed.

My next favorite thing to order is a spicy tuna roll. Theirs was fresh, not too spicy with crispy cucumber. The only thing I felt was missing was a fresh slice of jalapeno (which I’m sure you could order on the side, but I did not).

Here’s how it rang up:

  • Shishito peppers: $7.30

  • Spicy Tuna Roll (8 count): $7.85

  • Sales tax: $1.25

  • Tip: $4.00

  • Total: $20.40

What you can get at MK Sushi for under $20

Though I got two things for $20, there are other combinations for under $20 where you could get more.

Next time I plan on getting a glass of $4.25 sake, $5.20 edamame and California roll for $6.85. These three items would equate to $16.30, with room for a 20% tip.

With a happy hour menu that has nothing more expensive than $14.65, you have a lot of options for combinations that won’t stretch your budget.

MK Sushi in Fort Worth

MK Sushi also offers lunch specials from Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Happy Hour is from Monday to Thursday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

Their lunch specials offer chicken, beef or shrimp bowls, bento boxes and ramen all for under $20 a dish. With any ramen, you can add a California, spicy crab, shrimp tempura roll for $5.25.

They are located in Fort Worth and Bedford. I visited their Fort Worth location at 2901 Fair Drive.
