Most people avoid working out because of money or time. I avoid working out because I am so un-athletic it hurts.
However, a thought I can’t help mulling over is: “Would I rather be in pain for one hour a day for a few days of the week, or eventually be in pain for all hours of the day every day of the week?”
It’s no secret physical activity helps you feel better and reduces your risk of many chronic diseases. But in addition to the health benefits of working out, the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans also found that approximately 80 percent of Americans are not active enough. Don’t worry, I too am a part of that percentage.
But the new year means it’s time for change. And what better way to start a healthy habit than during the beginning of the year? The PAG study recommends adults do at least:
2.5 to 5 hours a week of moderate-intensity (like walking, lap swimming or riding a bike)
1 to 2.5 hours a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity (like running or jumping rope)
Muscle strengthening activities like planks or lunges twice a week
While that sounds like a lot, Fort Worth gyms offer all the proper equipment and machinery to do so. And I’m going to show you how to take advantage of it for under $25 a month.
Can insurance discount your gym memberships?
Health insurance plans can often give you discounted (or sometimes even free) gym memberships. It varies depending on the insurance company, but here’s how you can check.
Aetna, Kaiser Permanente and Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield are just a few providers that offer free or discounted gym memberships. To check, visit your insurance provider’s website and log in. You can review your plan coverage under your account.
Your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) could also cover a gym membership, but that too depends on your insurance.
