Right now sourdough and pickles are all the rage, and luckily for us, Fort Worth’s The Sour Boule restaurant has both.

The Sour Boule is a bakery and cafe located in west Fort Worth. Not only is it cheap, but it’s also a meal made from scratch.

Our Eats Beat reporter, Bud Kennedy, recently wrote about Sour Boule expanding into a bigger space because of popularity. I knew I had to check it out myself– especially as a sourdough lover.

After I saw the menu prices, I knew I had to share with you (brownie points for the menu being “Friends”-themed).

I strolled in at 11 a.m. on a Wednesday. I thought I was early for lunch, but at least a dozen other guests had the same idea. the fact that it was busy during a non-lunch hour gave me a good feeling about the food.

Here’s what I got for under $25.

What is on Sour Boule’s menu?

The Sour Boule offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with sourdough pastries, bagels, sandwiches and waffles. No entree is more than $13.

Sides include dill pickle and pesto pasta for $4.50 and mac and cheese and soups for no more than $8. Soups include tomato bisque, broccoli cheddar and chili.

A standout starter to me was the $7 stuffed sourdough bagel— a plain sourdough bagel, stuffed with cream cheese and rolled in garlic butter.

Their pickles are homemade, too. Flavors are plain dill, ranch, oregano, pepper, spicy, tajin and spicy ranch. You can get all these in a flight for just $6.

For those who aren’t so successful at making sourdough at home, you can buy it fresh here. But if you do want to start making it at home, sourdough starters are $10 a jar.

The $5 kid meals are a steal. On Wednesdays, guests can get a free cookie with the purchase of a $10 lunch box (half sandwich, half chilled side/bag of chips).

What I ate at Sour Boule

If you haven’t caught on by now, I am a spice lover.

I just could not resist ordering The Spicy Sour Boule. This sandwich has chipotle mayo, layered with chipotle chicken, pepperjack cheese, tomatoes and pickle marinated slaw, all hugged by a plain piece of sourdough.

To really make ya sweat, they also serve it with a tajin-coated pickle.

I also ordered a milky iced vanilla matcha to wash it all down. For me, matchas are hit or miss, but Sour Boule delivered.
