Finn MacCool’s has been around for 20 years, and owner Ginger Steinman says that without a doubt, the bar is packed on March 17.
Though St. Paddy’s Day is not a work holiday, it’s always an excuse to have a good beer…and maybe a few shots, too.
However, we all know how alcohol is not always kind to your wallet. March 17 is the nation’s most popular day for beer drinking, and Americans are expected to spend $7 billion on the holiday this year, according to WalletHub.
I walked down to 1700 Eighth Ave. on March 11 to see if I could manage to spend only $20 to celebrate. I was in luck.
Finn MacCool’s has five days packed with shamrock shenanigans– green beer, Irish car bombs, bagpipes, corned beef and Jameson pickles.
St. Patrick’s Day specials at Finn MacCool’s
While all St. Paddy’s Day festivities at Finn MacCool’s begin on Thursday, March 13, the biggest days to celebrate will be Sunday and Monday.
Starting on Thursday (and lasting through the weekend) all Irish whiskey shots are $1 off for happy hour price. Happy hour is daily, from noon until 7 p.m. All prices listed below are happy hour prices.
Bushmill’s Irish Whiskey for $4.75
Jameson Irish Whiskey for $4.75
Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey $4.75
Irish Car Bombs for $5.50
Guinness on tap for $5 a pint
Smithwicks on tap for $5 a pint
Any light beer can be turned green, and the bar also has non-alcoholic Guinness and other non-alcoholic beer options.
Also on Thursday, if you want to enjoy an Irish whiskey in an Irish pub, while listening to Irish music, bagpiper Kate Pressel and musician Jason Cartmell will be performing. On Saturday, Fort Worth Police Pipes and Drums will grace the stage. And for St. Paddy’s Day on Monday, local band Sam and the Snakes will keep the crowd lively.
If you can’t make it on Monday, Finn MacCool’s is still going all out on Sunday. Bushmills Girls will be giving out Irish whiskey shots and Guinness Guys will be pouring the pints.
For the actual holiday, the pub will have a full Irish menu:
Irish Nachos for $6
Shepherd’s Pie with salad and bread for $8
Corned Beef and Cabbage for $8
Reuben Eggrolls for $6
Carbomb Cupcakes for $1
Housemade Jameson Pickle for $1
Every Friday, Finn’s also serves fish and chips for $8.50 until 4 p.m.
St. Paddy’s Day for $20
Between free parking, a meal and a few drinks, it was no problem to stay on budget.
$8 Corned Beef and Cabbage
$1 Jame-O Pickle
$5 Guinness
$4.75 Jameson shot
Total: $18.75 (excluding tax and tip).
With these prices, I say, Erin go bragh (Ireland Forever)!
