Fort Worth joint Brix Barbecue to close after two years in Near Southside
Brix Barbecue is closing its doors in Near Southside after two years of service.
Restaurant owner Trevor Sales posted a lengthy message on social media Tuesday, saying the eatery’s last day of business will be on Thursday, Aug. 17. Brix first launched as a food truck and later opened its brick-and-mortar building at 1012 S. Main St. in July 2023.
Sales said while he loves the barbecue world, it’s time to move on to something else.
“As the restaurant landscape has changed, so have my passions, family life, career, and what’s important to me,” Sales wrote.
Sales went on to say that this is “probably” the end of Brix, but not the last time folks will dine on his food.
He said he still enjoys cooking and plans to serve other through his private dining concept, Tallow.
Over the next few weeks, Brix will serve up past specials from over the years, including the “Funkytown Hot Chicken Sandwich” this weekend. Other specials will be revealed soon.
In addition, Sales is encouraging folks to visit the restaurant to support the staff as many of the eatery’s customers are like “family.”
“I thank you all, dearly. We’ve done some really fun and unique things from the popup days to full on Brix & Mortar,” Sales wrote. “We couldn’t have done any of this without the support we’ve received from you and the hard work of our amazing staff. A special shoutout to my brother Jeremiah, aka J.”
As for the restaurant building itself, Sales said he plans to lease or sell the space to an aspiring restaurateur. If anyone is interested in the space, Sales said to email brixbarbecue@gmail.com.
More on Brix
In 2017, Sales was gifted a smoker from his parents after moving to Texas from the Chicago region.
From then, Sales spent many a late nights barbecuing and giving out samples to his friends and colleagues, according to Brix’s website. A few months later, he was convinced by the same bunch to enter the commercial barbecue fray.
The restaurant’s name came that following year in 2018, when Sales rescued a Boxer-Terrier mix named Brix.
Among its many Fort Worth customers, Brix also welcomed “Mad Men” actor Jon Hamm and his wife Anna Osceola in March 2024. Hamm was in town shooting season 1 of “Landman.”
Brix serves a variety of smoked meats from ribs and brisket, to pulled pork and burnt ends.
The restaurant is also known for its Texas porchetta, which is pork belly lined with fresh herbs and spices that is tied up in twine and smoked.
Brix Barbecue is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
