When Brittany Peete posted a TikTok tour last April of Chef’s Corner, a Fort Worth soul food spot tucked inside a gas station, she didn’t expect it to blow up.

But it did. The video racked up thousands of views, shares and comments, pulling her into a content creator world she hadn’t planned on entering.

What caught Peete (TikTok username @wherebebe) off guard wasn’t just the attention. It was how many people responded with curiosity about the city itself.

“People kept saying Fort Worth is boring, or there’s nothing to do here,” Peete said. “I was like, no, there’s actually a lot going on. People just don’t see it.”

That moment pushed her to focus more of her content on the city.

She realized the problem wasn’t a lack of creativity, it was a lack of visibility. Plenty of people in Fort Worth were making content, but few were getting recognized for it.

That sparked an idea: What if she brought the city’s creators — the hairstylists, business owners, and influencers-in-the-making — together in one room?

She put out a TikTok asking, “Where are all the Fort Worth content creators?” That video went viral, too.

“People kept asking in the comments to do a meetup,” she said. “So I thought, why not? There are so many aspiring creators here who just don’t know each other yet.”

So, she started an event. The Fort Worth Creators meet-up event is this Saturday, Aug. 2, from 12-4 p.m. at Chef’s Corner’s new location (formerly Turkey Den) at 1201 Oakland Blvd. Admission is free, and anyone can attend — whether you’re on TikTok or not.

Why Fort Worth needs a content creator hub

Peete, who moved from Memphis to Fort Worth years ago, says she’s watched the city grow. But when it comes to digital creator culture, it’s still in Dallas’ shadow.

“Dallas is always the place people think of when it comes to events and creators,” she said. “Fort Worth is seen as ‘out of town,’ but there’s so much talent here.”

Peete’s upcoming event is designed to challenge that narrative and put Fort Worth creators on the map.

“There’s a lot of great things happening in Fort Worth right now so this is a really good time for creators to hop on it,” she said. “People aren’t using Google like they used to, they’re going to TikTok. When you’re looking for a brunch spot or a hairstylist, that’s where you search and the businesses that know how to use it are the ones being seen.”

The Fort Worth creator meetup

To turn that momentum into something tangible, Peete is now hosting her first community meetup for local creators Saturday, Aug. 2.

Attendees can expect giveaways, live collaborations, and networking challenges designed to help attendees leave with at least five pieces of content ready to post.

“There’ll be influencers of all levels, including some with big followings who are coming to share what they’ve learned,” Peete said. “Whether you’re new to content or trying to grow, this is a chance to meet people, make content, and just get started.”

Giveaways include tripods, ring lights, and other beginner-friendly gear for attendees who participate in activities throughout the day.

Chef Mike Douresseaux of Chef’s Corner is also contributing food for the event, which will double as a space for hands-on filming and editing practice.

“The idea is that everybody leaves with something, whether that’s content, new connections, or just more confidence,” Peete said. “It’s about sharing knowledge and moving forward, together.”

For Peete, this is just the beginning. She hopes the event will spark more meetups, more visibility, and more pride in what Fort Worth creators have to offer.

“We’ve got the talent, we just need to connect,” she said. “If we keep showing up for each other, there’s no reason Fort Worth can’t be the next big content hub.”
