Most Fort Worthians can live off chips, queso and a good margarita. But which restaurant has the best queso?

We stirred the pot and asked readers to nominate their favorite bowl of queso in Fort Worth. We wanted to know about restaurants you can only find in Cowtown. After three rounds of voting and more than 250 votes, the readers have spoken.

The readers have determined that The Original Mexican Eats Cafe has the best queso in town. Not only did this restaurant win the final round, but led (by a landslide) throughout all three rounds. Safe to say, the Original has some loyal fans.

Keep reading to see a full list of all of the restaurants nominated, plus how we organized voting rounds.

And remember, this was not a scientific poll or survey — it’s just for fun!

The Winner

The Original Mexican Eats Cafe is located at 1400 N Main St. in Fort Worth.

It can’t get more Fort Worth than this restaurant. The OG has been open since 1926, owned and operated by the Pineda family. The original location was on Camp Bowie, but they moved in 2023 to their North Fort Worth location due to an unreachable agreement with their landlord.

“Same Food!! Same Service, just a different space,” says Facebook user Helen Machala

Former President Franklin. D. Roosevelt even visited the original Original. The restaurant’s signature dish is called “The Roosevelt Special,” in honor of his favorite meal.

A cup of queso comes at $6.25 and a bowl for $8.75. They also offer queso with ground beef, pico de gallo and guacamole add-ins. They also have a white queso variation called “Emilia’s dip” with white cheddar queso with spinach and pico de gallo at $7.75 a cup.
