There’s something so nostalgic about eating a turkey sandwich with a bag of Lays potato chips. Takes me back to my elementary school days.

I’ll start off by addressing the elephant in the room — I agree that packing your own lunch would be the most cost-effective option for your mid-day meal.

However, if you ever find yourself escaping your desk for lunch, I’ve found some deals.

I’ve already told y’all about on a budget deals for a pizza and salad lunch special, homemade sourdough sammy and pickle meal and an all-day breakfast in a work-friendly riverside cafe.

And now I’ll tell y’all about a deli tucked away in the Ridglea neighborhood, The Lunch Box.

The Lunch Box in Fort Worth

The Lunch Box is a picnic-style deli lunch that serves chicken salad, sandwiches, pasta salad, pimento cheese, soups, salad– all the things your mom and aunts would like. In fact, on the day I walked into the white, green and yellow building — which reminded me of my grandmother’s house — it felt like this was obviously where pre-school moms gathered post pickup to get lunch with the kiddos and their friends.

It’s located at 6333 Camp Bowie Blvd. behind Rockfish Seafood and Grill, with a Chicken Salad Chick less than a mile away. If you are choosing between The Lunch Box and Chicken Salad Chick, the obvious pick is The Lunch Box.

What I ate at The Lunch Box in Fort Worth

At The Lunch Box, I spent $11.25 on a BALT (Bacon, Avocado, Lettuce, Tomato) sandwich and upgraded my order for $4.50 to make it a lunch box.

*Note that I added turkey for an extra $2 to my BALT which is why it was $11.25 instead of the normal $9.25.

The deal at the lunch box is that you can make any sandwich into a lunch box, which means adding three sides. And there are t 10 sides to choose from– Fresh fruit, pasta salad, potato chips, cookies, potato salad, veggies and ranch, tomato basil soup and the soup of the day.

I chose my BALT sandwich with potato chips, pasta salad and fruit.

  • BALT: $11.95
  • Three sides: $4.50
  • Sales Tax: $1.30
  • Tip: $3.15
