Access to abortions in Texas is blocked now that the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — the 1973 decision guaranteeing Americans the right to an abortion.

Abortion providers

People considering getting an abortion can call the National Abortion Federation Hotline at 800-772-9100 to learn about their options and get case management support. Hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekend.

In Texas, abortion is currently allowed through six weeks of pregnancy. They can only be provided if no embryonic or fetal cardiac activity is detected in your sonogram.

The state requires you to go to a state-directed information appointment in-person, wait for 24 hours, and then go back for another appointment for your abortion. This means you must make at least two trips to the health center.

If you’re looking for resources outside of Texas, 26 clinics currently provide abortion in states closest to Texas, namely in Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. Visit needabortion.org for a list of locations.

If you can travel out of state, Whole Woman’s Health is now offering abortion pills delivered by mail for up to 11 weeks of pregnancy in New Mexico. Call 877-835-8631 to check your eligibility. Also, if you visit a Whole Woman’s Health clinic in another state, the cost of your travel and care may be fully covered.

Plan C provides information to help people access abortion pills.

For after-abortion support, call the Exhale hotline at 1 866-439-4253 or text 617-749-2948.
