Half of Texas preseason all-state football team is from Dallas-Fort Worth high schools

Even with concerns of the fall season starting because of the coronavirus, Dallas-Fort Worth still finds a way to produce some of the best football in the state.

MaxPreps announced its 2020 preseason Texas all-state football team on Tuesday. Of the 54 spots, 50% came from DFW.

Three quarterbacks made first-team offense, including reigning National Sophomore of the Year and Star-Telegram Offensive Player of the Year Quinn Ewers from Southlake Carroll.

Ewers, who’s the top-rated quarterback for the Class of 2022, threw for over 4,000 yards and 45 touchdowns as the Dragons reached the state semifinals.

Dematrius Davis (Galena Park North Shore) and Kyron Drones (Alvin Shadow Creek) were the others. Both led their respected teams to state championships.

Aledo receiver and LSU commit JoJo Earle made first-team offense. He posted over 2,000 yards of total offense and scored 26 times for the Bearcats, who won their UIL-record ninth state title in December.

Fort Worth All Saints offensive tackle Tommy Brockermeyer also made first-team offense. Brockermeyer is the top-ranked 2021 player in the nation.

His twin brother, James, who is the No. 1 ranked center in 2021, made second-team offense.

Four players from DFW made first-team offense while seven were named first-team defense, which included Southlake Carroll kicker/punter Joe McFadden and Aledo defensive back and LSU commit BJ Allen.

Nine from DFW made second-team offense, including all three quarterbacks in Eli Stowers (Denton Guyer), Preston Stone (Dallas Parish Episcopal) and Kaidon Salter (Cedar Hill).

Another seven was named second-team defense, including Kennedale safety and Texas commit JD Coffey.

Duncanville had the most selections in the state with five. The Panthers have finished as Class 6A Division I state runner-ups in back-to-back seasons.

Aledo, All Saints, Humble Atascocita, DeSoto, Richmond Foster, Guyer, Denton Ryan and Carroll were the other schools that have more than one player featured.

DFW Players

First Team Offense

QB Quinn Ewers, Carroll: Holds 29 offers and is projected to commit with OU.

WR JoJo Earle, Aledo: Ranked as the No. 9 prospect in the state. Chose LSU over Alabama, Auburn and Baylor.

OL Tommy Brockermeyer, All Saints: Narrowed decision to Texas, Auburn, Alabama, Clemson and LSU.

OL Savion Byrd, Duncanville: 6-5, 265 pounder is a 4-star tackle, ranked sixth in the country and holds offers from Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas and SMU.

First Team Defense

DL Ja’Tavion Sanders, Ryan: 5-star edge rusher and Longhorn commit is ranked the No. 2 athlete in the nation and fourth-ranked prospect in Texas.

DL Shemar Turner, DeSoto: 4-star end posted 54 tackles, 10 for loss and eight sacks last season. Turner has offers from LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Georgia and Alabama.

LB Kendrick Blackshire, Duncanville: The No. 7 ranked inside linebacker is projected to commit with Alabama.

DB Deuce Harmon, Guyer: A&M commit has 90 tackles, 20 pass break-ups and five interceptions in the past two seasons.

DB BJ Allen, Aledo: Led the Bearcats last season with 122 tackles.

AP Billy Bowman, Ryan: Sits a spot behind teammate Sanders as the No. 3 athlete in the country. The Texas commit is also the No. 5 prospect in the state.

P Joe McFadden, Carroll: Pulling double duty for Carroll’s kicking game, McFadden averaged nearly 35 yards per punt with a long of 58 and pinned opponents inside the 20 six times. He also nailed 84 of 86 extra kicks and 7 of 10 field goals.

Second Team Offense

QB Eli Stowers, Guyer: A&M commit accounted for over 4,000 yards and 47 touchdowns for state finalist.

QB Preston Stone, Parish: SMU commit led the Panthers to the TAPPS state title and accounted for over 4,000 yards and 48 touchdowns.

QB Kaidon Salter, Cedar Hill: Tennessee commit is the No. 8 dual-threat QB in the country. Salter accounted for over 3,100 yards and 38 touchdowns.

RB Camar Wheaton, Garland Lakeview Centennial: 5-star back is No. 2 in the country. Wheaton, who is projected to commit to OU, has 29 rushing touchdowns during the past two seasons.

WR Quay Davis, Dallas Skyline: USC commit picked the Trojans over Texas, Alabama and 18 other offers.

WR Roderick Daniels, Duncanville: Baylor commit scored 13 times on offense last season. Daniels was named district Offensive MVP.

OL Devon Campbell, Arlington Bowie: Top-ranked 2022 guard in the country has 25 offers and is projected to commit with the Longhorns.

OL Jaylen Early, Duncanville: The 2022 tackle has 24 offers, including from Alabama.

OL James Brockermeyer, All Saints: Narrowed decision to Texas, Auburn, Alabama and LSU.

Second Team Defense

DL Omari Abor, Duncanville: 2022 defensive end has 21 offers, including from OU, UT and Bama.

DL Byron Murphy II, DeSoto: Projected to commit with Baylor, Murphy made 98 tackles, 12 for loss and 5 1/2 sacks last season.

DL David Abiara, Mansfield Legacy: Notre Dame commit had 75 tackles, 21 for loss and 15 sacks.

LB Morice Blackwell, Arlington Martin: Texas commit posted 128 tackles, 13 for loss, two picks and three fumbles.

DB JD Coffey, Kennedale: Texas commit is ranked No. 7 in the country. Has made 16 career interceptions.

DB Ishmael Ibraheem, Dallas Kimball: Texas commit is ranked No. 13 in the country. Chose the Horns over Bama, Auburn, Baylor and Boston College.

AP Cinque Williams, Carroll: 3-star safety is committed to Hawaii.
