Martin linebacker becomes ninth 2021 commit for Texas, fourth from Dallas-Fort Worth

Arlington Martin outside linebacker Morice Blackwell announced his commitment to Texas via Twitter on Sunday.

Blackwell is a 2021 graduate and 3-star prospect according to 247Sports. He had 14 offers, which also included Alabama, Baylor, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Utah.

For the ‘21 class, Blackwell is ranked as the No. 26 OLB in the country and No. 53 overall player in Texas.

He’s the ninth commit from 2021 to choose Texas and fourth from Dallas-Fort Worth. Denton Ryan’s Billy Bowman Jr. and Ja’Tavion Sanders, and Everman’s Juan Davis are the others.

Per 247Sports, the Longhorns’ 2021 class is ranked No. 13 overall and No. 1 in the Big 12.

Blackwell was voted District 4-6A MVP last season as Martin went 11-2 and 7-0 in district. The Warriors reached the third round of the Class 6A Division 1 playoffs.

Blackwell was also voted district newcomer of the year in 2018.

In the past two seasons, he’s recorded 240 tackles, 23 for loss, six forced fumbles and three safeties.
