TCU women’s basketball lands 2nd commitment from 2021 class in Fort Worth area guard
Arlington Martin rising senior guard Mariah Roberts announced on Wednesday her commitment to TCU.
According to TCU head coach Raegan Pebley, Roberts is TCU’s second commit from the Class of 2021. Denton Guyer’s Evie Goetz committed in November.
“I would also like to thank all my family and coaches that have contributed to my life and set me up for this moment,” Roberts said in a tweet.
Roberts had a career year as she helped the Warriors to their best season in program history.
The 5-9 guard averaged 14 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game.
She was voted District 4-6A MVP and to Class 6A all-state teams by both the Texas Girls Coaches Association and Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.
Roberts capped the season off as the Star-Telegram Defensive Player of the Year as her 3.4 steals a game ranked her second in the Fort Worth area. She also recorded 2.8 deflections per game.
Martin went 35-5, its most wins, and made a trip to the regional tournament for the first time. The Warriors went 16-0 in district for their first undefeated district title since 1998.
TCU was 22-7 overall and 13-5 in the Big 12 before the season was cut short due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in March.
According to the 2020-21 roster, the Horned Frogs have four players from Dallas-Fort Worth, including Lauren Heard (Denton Guyer), Tavy Diggs (Plano East), Alexandria Crain (Dallas Thunder) and Adhel Tac (Sachse).
