UIL Lone Star Cup awards canceled amid COVID-19 pandemic. Here are the final standings
The University Interscholastic League announced that the Lone Star Cup will not be awarded for the 2019-20 school year due to the cancellation of spring activities from the coronavirus pandemic.
All UIL sanctioned contests were suspended on March 13 during the boys basketball state tournament and later canceled on April 17 from COVID-19.
Among the events that didn’t conclude this year: boys basketball, soccer, tennis, track, golf, softball, baseball, robotics first, academics and one-act play.
The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes the top high school in each UIL conference based on overall team achievement in sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships. This marks the first year the UIL Lone Star Cup has not been awarded since the program began during the 1997-98 school year.
For the first time, four teams from Dallas-Fort Worth (Southlake Carroll, Highland Park, Argyle, Brock) were Lone Star Cup champions last year. Those four teams were first this year in their respected classes.
