How many travelers are anticipated at North Texas airports for the Fourth of July weekend?

AAA projects a record 72.2 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home for the Fourth of July weekend, and nearly 8 percent of those people will fly to their destination.

DFW expects 1.8 million travelers between Wednesday, July 2 and Tuesday, July 8, according to a news release. Monday, July 7 is expected to be DFW’s busiest day of the long weekend, with more than 285,000 customers traveling through the airport.

Love Field anticipates a little less traffic than last year, estimating 189,619 travelers from Thursday, July 3 to Monday, July 7, an airport spokesperson told the Star-Telegram.

Tips for flying during Fourth of July weekend

DFW suggests:

  • Arrive at least two hours before departure. Multiple areas of the airport are under construction, and this might affect travel time to the airport.

  • For parking: “Garages at Terminals C and D tend to fill up faster than other garages,” according to a news release. “If C and D garages are full, those flying American Airlines can park, check in, check their bags and go through security in either Terminals A or B to expedite their time at DFW.”

  • If you need to move from terminal to terminal, use the Skylink.

  • Use the DFW mobile app to check security wait times and parking lot availability.

Love Field suggests:

  • Arrive at least two hours before departure.

  • Check your flight status before arriving at the airport.

  • Follow the airport on social media platforms to keep abreast of airport updates.

  • Remember that travelers without a REAL ID will face additional screening from TSA.
