Sundance Square made latest ‘Landman’ episode. See all the Fort Worth references
The fourth episode of Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” aired Sunday, Dec. 1, and contained a few references to Fort Worth.
“Landman” stars Billy Bob Thornton and is described as a “modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.” The Paramount+ series premiered Nov. 17 and airs new episodes weekly on Sundays.
Since “Landman” was filmed in the Lone Star State and is set in West Texas and Fort Worth, viewers can expect in-house references in the series.
Episode one included mentions of Fort Worth’s Meacham International Airport and the Petroleum Club, while episode two referenced TCU and the Hotel Drover. Episode three contains scenes filmed at Fort Worth’s River Crest Country Club.
Here’s a look at all the Texas and Fort Worth references in the fourth episode, “The Sting of Second Chances.”
American Association of Professional Landmen
Around four-and-a-half minutes in, Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) is testifying at a deposition at a Midland law firm.
After a few brief comments, the litigators and Tommy move into a nearby conference room where Rebecca Falcone (Kayla Wallace) settles a huge lawsuit. Wallace spoke with Star-Telegram about filming the big scene.
While set up to look like a Midland law firm, the filming location was actually the Fort Worth headquarters of the American Association of Professional Landmen.
The association serves as a resource for land management professionals and has nearly 12,000 members. When “Landman” premiered on Nov. 17, the association held a watch party at their Fort Worth office at 800 Fournier St.
A law firm was previously based in the Fort Worth building before the landmen association moved in.
‘Aledo’s mother of the year’
Around 22 minutes in, Tommy (Thornton) and Rebecca (Wallace) are having a drink at the Patch Cafe after the deposition.
Tommy’s ex-wife Angela (Ali Larter) and daughter Ainsely (Michelle Randolph) also stop by the Cafe for a drink. After Tommy asks why the two are there, Angela says they wanted a drink since Ainsley is on spring break from high school.
“This is Aledo’s mother of the year in case you were wondering,” Tommy says to Rebecca.
Aledo has been mentioned a few times on “Landman” this season.
In episode one, Ainsley’s boyfriend Dakota is seen wearing an orange and black varsity jacket featuring a large “A” and cat paw print. In episode three, Ainsley sees a social media post from Dakota with the caption, “Bearcats!”
Aledo, the oldest city in Parker County, is about 19 miles west of Fort Worth. The Aledo High School Bearcats are known for their football dominance, having won 12 state championships.
Sundance Square Plaza
Around 40 minutes in, Tommy (Thornton) calls Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) and tells him that a repaired oil well is up and running.
Monty is walking through Fort Worth’s Sundance Square Plaza when he answers the call.
Located in downtown Fort Worth, Sundance Square Plaza hosts a variety of events year-round, including live music on weekends. This holiday season, the plaza is also host to an 82-foot Christmas tree that was lit on Dec. 3.
“Landman” airs new episodes weekly on Sundays on Paramount+.
