Here’s all the Fort Worth and Texas references in ‘Landman’ episode 1. Did you see them?
Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” premiered on Sunday, Nov. 17, and contains numerous references to Texas and Fort Worth.
The Paramount+ series stars Billy Bob Thornton and is described as a “modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.” New episodes of “Landman” are released weekly on Sundays.
“Landman” is set in Texas and filmed in the Lone Star State earlier this year. Here’s a look at the Texas and Fort Worth references in the first episode.
Plane crash in Young County
Around the eight-minute mark, a plane lands and is blown up by an oil tank truck barreling into it.
In the show, this crash is depicted somewhere in West Texas near Midland and Odessa. The scene was actually filmed in the small Texas town of Loving, which is near Young County.
Production took place in May and shut down a few roads in the area.
Fort Worth Meacham International Airport
Around 22 minutes into the episode, Tommy Norris (Thornton) receives a phone call from his ex-wife, Angela Norris (Ali Larter), about babysitting their 17-year-old daughter.
Tommy doesn’t want his daughter driving to Odessa and tells Angela to put her on a plane at “Meacham.” This is in reference to Meacham International Airport, which is located in north Fort Worth.
Petroleum Club of Fort Worth
Around the 25-minute mark, “Landman” shows a glimpse of the downtown Fort Worth skyline, including Frost Tower.
Monty Miller (Jon Hamm) is having a meal at the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth, which is located inside 777 Main. The club’s first meeting was held on May 25, 1953.
Also mentioned in this sequence is Stonewall County, which is located around 185 miles west of Tarrant County.
“Patch Cafe” in west Fort Worth
Around 31 minutes in, Tommy Norris (Thornton) meets up with a few folks for lunch at the “Patch Cafe.”
Originally, the west Fort Worth cafe storefront was only a shooting location for “Landman.” In June, restaurant owner Philip Murrin announced that the location is being turned into a full-service Texas-themed restaurant.
No opening date has been set for the restaurant at 9840 Camp Bowie West Blvd.
Fort Worth’s JD’s Hamburgers is also briefly shown in this sequence. After Jon Hamm was spotted filming around Fort Worth this spring, JD’s sold a “Jon Hammburger” and encouraged the actor to stop by the restaurant at 9901 Camp Bowie W. Blvd.
Aledo ISD varsity jacket
Around 35 minutes in, Tommy (Thornton) picks up his daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) from the Midland airport.
Ainsley brings along her boyfriend, Dakota (Drake Rodger), who is wearing an orange and black varsity jacket. While Dakota doesn’t say what high school he plays for, the jacket features a big “A” emblem with a cat print on it.
Given the color scheme and emblem, this could be in reference to Aledo, the Parker County city about 19 miles west of Fort Worth. The Aledo Bearcats are known for their football dominance, having won 12 state championships.
Ratliff Stadium
Soon after Tommy picks up the kids, they head over to Ratliff Stadium to watch a football game.
Located in Odessa, Ratliff is the home stadium of the Permian and Odessa high school football teams. The stadium was also a key filming location for the 2004 film Friday Night Lights.
Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech
Around 41 minutes in, Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) returns home from a day working in the oil patch.
He and his fellow crew mates have dinner together in one of their houses. Cooper is seen wearing a red Texas Tech hat, while Luis Medina (Emilio Rivera) is wearing a Dallas Cowboys shirt.
Texas Tech is located in Lubbock, while the Cowboys practice in Frisco and play home games in Arlington at AT&T Stadium.
“Landman” airs new episodes weekly on Sundays on Paramount+.
