Teen killed, 2 injured in shooting during a house party, Fort Worth police say
A 19-year-old man who had recently celebrated his birthday was killed and two other people were injured in a shooting at a house party in Fort Worth’s Northside early Sunday, June 15, according to police and friends of the victim.
Officers responded to the shooting in the 3700 block of N. Houston Street about 12:30 a.m., police said in a news release.
When officers arrived, they found two of the shooting victims. Both of them were taken to hospitals. One victim died at the hospital, and the second is expected to survive, police said.
The third shooting victim was taken to a hospital in a private vehicle and is expected to survive, police said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who died as 19-year-old Anthony Luis Rangel.
Detectives determined there was a party at the home when two women began arguing over one of the shooting victims, police said.
Police said unidentified suspects arrived at the scene, and one of them got into a fight with one of the victims. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking the victims.
The suspect fled in a car, police said. Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting and no arrests have been made.
On a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses, the mother of Rangel’s girlfriend wrote that the teen had recently celebrated his birthday. According to his family, his birthday was earlier in the week and the party was for someone’s graduation.
“What was meant to be a celebration of Anthony’s 19th birthday turned into a nightmare no family should ever face,” his girlfriend’s mother wrote. “Last night Anthony was an innocent bystander tragically taken from this world far too soon. He had dreams, ambition, and a heart full of love for those around him. His family, friends, and especially my daughter Tierra are shattered by his loss.”
“Even in our heartbreak, we find peace in knowing Anthony gave his life to God,” she wrote. “We were honored to witness his baptism — a sacred moment where God made a promise we now hold onto with everything we have: we will see him again.”
