A 24-year-old man died after he was shot multiple times outside a residence in west Fort Worth on Sunday morning, and a suspect was arrested, police said.

Officers responded about 3:30 a.m. June 15 to the 3000 block of Conejos Drive. A 911 caller initially reported the shooting as a possible suicide, but police said they are investigating it as a homicide. Several other 911 callers also reported gunshots in the area, police said.

When officers arrived, they found Matthew Fonseca with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso. Fonseca was pronounced dead on the scene by medical personnel, police said.

Two witnesses told detectives they went to the location to retrieve a cellphone from Fonseca. When they arrived, they found him dead and called 911, they told police.

According to jail records, the suspect in the case, 24-year-old Jonathan Martinez, was booked about 10 a.m. Sunday. He faces a murder charge.

In an interview with homicide detectives, Martinez admitted to shooting Fonseca, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Star-Telegram. Martinez told the detectives that someone, whose name is redacted from the document released by police, called him and said that Fonseca had assaulted Martinez’s ex-girlfriend.

Martinez said he went to the house where he was told Fonseca would be and saw him parked in the driveway. Martinez told police that he “blacked out and began shooting at Matthew,” according to the affidavit. After the shooting, he threw his gun into Lake Worth, he said.

One of the witnesses told police that when she found Fonseca dead, she initially thought he had killed himself, but then Martinez called and said, “I got you,” according to the affidavit.

Another victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was fatally shot after an argument in the back yard of a home in the 3000 block of Forest Avenue.

A fourth Sunday morning shooting, on Lynnhaven Road, left a victim hospitalized in critical condition, according to MedStar.

In the double homicide, on Asheville Lane, a 16-year-old and a 25-year-old were killed, and a 17-year-old suspect was arrested.
