PHOTO: ‘Landman’ transforms North Texas police station for season 2 filming

Normally, Odessa is halfway across the state from North Texas. But this week, it got a whole lot closer.

Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman” transformed the small town of Jacksboro into Odessa this week as cameras rolled on season 2. The Paramount+ series has been filming in and around the Metroplex since March.

Production crews switched out city signage from Jacksboro to Odessa, including at the town’s police station. City of Odessa branded police cars were also seen being unloaded from a car hauler.

The Jacksboro Herald-Gazette, a local newspaper, shared a few snaps of crews transforming the town earlier this week for filming on July 9. See the photos below.

Editor’s note: Spoilers for season 1 of “Landman” follow.

While it’s unknown what scenes “Landman” filmed in Jacksboro this week, the city has hosted filming before.

In February 2024, the show filmed at Faith Community Hospital as a double for the fictional “Midland General Hospital”. The scenes were shown in season 1 episode 2, when Billy Bob Thornton’s character goes to the hospital for a smashed finger.

The show returned to Jacksboro this past April to film scenes involving a funeral. It’s unknown who the funeral was for. However, one could guess that it might be for Jon Hamm’s Monty Miller, who died in the season 1 finale.

As far as filming this month, the only hint about what was filmed in Jacksboro is that it’s set in Odessa.

Several casting notices from Legacy Casting mentioned looking for people to portray “Odessa pedestrians.” Another notice was for assisted living residents and visitors.
