North Texas-filmed ‘The Chosen’ sets Prime Video streaming date for season 5

After a theatrical run this spring, North Texas-filmed “The Chosen” has set its streaming date for season 5.

The Biblical drama series, based on the life of Jesus, will release in three parts on Prime Video in June. The first part (episodes 1-2) releases June 15, part two (episodes 3-5) on June 22 and part three (episodes 6-8) on June 29.

This release strategy mirrors the show’s theatrical rollout, which premiered in three parts over consecutive weekends in March and April. All three parts were in theaters until Easter Sunday (April 20).

“The Chosen” season 5 covers Holy Week and the Last Supper. Watch the trailer below.

‘The Chosen’ ties to North Texas

“The Chosen” has filmed at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian, about 35 miles southeast of Fort Worth, since season 3.

The 1,200-acre campus is owned and operated by The Salvation Army, and serves as a “peaceful setting” for retreats and conferences, according to the facility’s website. Numerous houses, meeting spaces and conference areas are located on the grounds at 8060 Singleton Road.

More than 80,000 square feet of soundstages and outdoor sets for “The Chosen” are located at Camp Hoblitzelle, including the 55 sets and locations built for season 5.

Around 200 crew members worked for six months to construct the backlot city set, according to the production. Of those crew members, several inscribed their favorite scriptures on the raw wall and floor before stone or stucco was applied.

At the season 5 premiere, series creator Dallas Jenkins told the Star-Telegram that it’s been “extraordinary” to have Camp Hoblitzelle as a resource over the years and not have to start from scratch every season.

“We formed a partnership years ago, so that they benefit us and we benefit them,” Jenkins said. “We all want the same thing, we want the stories of Jesus told to the world.”
