‘The Chosen’ begins filming season 6 in North Texas. See a photo from set
Just a few weeks after “The Chosen” season 5 released in theaters, production has already begun on season 6 in North Texas.
The drama series, based on the life of Jesus, released its fifth season in three parts over consecutive weekends from late March to mid-April. Ahead of the season 5 release, the series held a black (not red) carpet premiere in Red Oak on March 20.
“The Chosen” announced that production on season 6 was underway in a April 14 Instagram post. A clapperboard, with series creator and director Dallas Jenkins’ name, is seen in front of a character in an orange robe as crew members work in the background. See the photo below.
“Lights, camera…You know the drill. Season 6 filming starts today,” the post read.
Where is ‘The Chosen’ filmed in North Texas?
“The Chosen” has filmed at Camp Hoblitzelle in Midlothian, about 35 miles southeast of Fort Worth, since season 3.
The 1,200-acre campus is owned and operated by The Salvation Army, and serves as a “peaceful setting” for retreats and conferences, according to the facility’s website. Numerous houses, meeting spaces and conference areas are located on the grounds at 8060 Singleton Road.
More than 80,000 square feet of soundstages and outdoor sets for “The Chosen” are located at Camp Hoblitzelle, including the 55 sets and locations built for season 5.
Around 200 crew members worked for six months to construct the backlot city set, according to the production. Of those crew members, several inscribed their favorite scriptures on the raw wall and floor before stone or stucco was applied.
At the season 5 premiere, Jenkins told the Star-Telegram that it’s been “extraordinary” to have Camp Hoblitzelle as a resource over the years and not have to start from scratch every season.
“We formed a partnership years ago, so that they benefit us and we benefit them,” Jenkins said. “We all want the same thing, we want the stories of Jesus told to the world.”
