Despite stats, Dak Prescott not very sharp as MVP talk dies in Cowboys’ loss to Bills

Dak Prescott was riding high and having the best season of his career. There was MVP talk and speculation about eye-popping, long-term contracts.

That was three weeks ago. Feels like ancient history right about now.

Prescott had another mediocre day as the Dallas Cowboys laid an egg against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, 26-15 at AT&T Stadium.

Prescott completed 32 of 49 passes for 355 yards and two touchdowns, which looks good in the box score.

But he also threw an interception, lost a fumble and threw what could be argued is the worst-thrown pass of his career when the Cowboys needed it the most.

“Not good enough,” Prescott said of his performance. “Simple as that. Turnovers, just mishaps. I can’t do that.”

With the Cowboys trailing 23-7 late in the third quarter, Dallas drove the ball 69 yards to the Bills’ 6 before facing a fourth and 6. The Cowboys went for it, and Prescott had Ezekiel Elliott open with an open lane down the sideline to the end zone. Prescott, even without much pressure, rushed his pass and threw it into the ground five yards in front of Elliott.

“Just a bad throw,” he said. “It was one of those where my eyes weren’t on Zeke. I was looking at the defender and tried to get it to Zeke real fast because I was seeing what the defense was doing. I just didn’t find Zeke and kind of flipped it out there. My feet were bad. It was just a bad play by me, simple as that. I hurt the team.”

The Cowboys are 0-5 against teams with winning records, including the Bills, who improved to 9-3.

“If I had that answer, we wouldn’t be in this position,” he said.
