Eight fatal crashes in past 30 days in Fort Worth, accident map shows

Eight people died in car crashes in Fort Worth from Nov. 9 to Dec. 9, according to data from the city.

Three fatal crashes in the past 30 days involved pedestrians. Yam Lal Sapkota, 44, died while crossing East Loop 820 on Nov. 16. Peggy Sue Wichman, 60, died while crossing a South Freeway entrance ramp on Nov. 14. Dean Ray Hutcherson, 34, died after he was hit by a vehicle on an Interstate 30 ramp in east Fort Worth on Nov. 30.

None of the fatal accidents were hit-and-runs, although police said the driver in a crash on Dec. 7 tried to flee the scene at Mitchell Boulevard and South Beach Street and caused another wreck. The driver struck a third vehicle, killing a passenger and was charged with intoxicated manslaughter, police said. The passenger who died was identified as Sharon Haley, 61, of Fort Worth.

A driver also was charged with intoxicated manslaughter in a crash on Dec. 7 that killed Joseph D. Jackson, 66, on South Freeway near East Magnolia Avenue.

The Star-Telegram compiled an interactive map using the city’s data on crashes in the past 30 days.

The map, which shows Fort Worth and its surrounding neighborhoods, shows there were around 1,100 total crashes reported to police from Nov. 9 to Dec. 9. Of those, 318 were hit-and-runs, all non-fatal.

The locations of the crashes are marked with multicolored dots — clicking on a dot reveals more information about the crash.

In order to search a specific address, type it into the search bar in the left-hand corner. The map also has a filter to choose whether to view fatal or non-fatal crashes or view crashes that were hit-and-runs or not.

Here is a searchable map of vehicle accidents in Fort Worth for the past month. To search the map for accidents in an area, just type in a Fort Worth address in the search field or zoom into an area of the map. Click the individual markers for more information on the accident. You can also filter for fatalities and hit-and-run accidents. The City of Fort Worth provides the data.
