Woman killed when driver hit car while trying to flee accident scene; driver arrested

One person died and four people were injured Saturday in two crashes involving the same driver in Fort Worth, police said.

Two vehicles initially crashed about 5:45 p.m. at Mitchell Boulevard and South Beach Street, police said. The driver of one of the vehicles then tried to leave the scene and struck a third vehicle, killing a passenger, police said.

The victim was Sharon Haley, 61, of Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office website on Monday. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 1900 block of Mitchell Blvd.

The driver who hit the vehicle and caused Haley’s death was later determined to be intoxicated, according to a police report.

Juan Fernando Gonzalez Medina, 36, of Fort Worth, was arrested and charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle/driving under the influence, according to the report. Bail had not been set and he was under an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold Monday, according to court records.

Four other people were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
