Fort Worth man identified as victim killed on highway by suspected drunken driver
A 66-year-old Fort Worth man has been identified as the victim in what Fort Worth police say was a fatal wreck involving a suspected drunken driver.
The victim was Joseph D. Jackson, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died early Saturday at the scene of the crash. A ruling on his death is pending an autopsy.
Hours after the accident, 39-year-old Samuel Delacruz of Fort Worth was booked into the Fort Worth Jail and accused of intoxication manslaughter.
Delacruz was in the Tarrant County Jail on Monday in lieu of $30,000 bail.
The wreck was reported about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on the South Freeway near East Magnolia Avenue.
Jackson was driving a pickup truck when he was rear-ended by another pickup, Fort Worth police said. Jackson was thrown from his vehicle.
Delacruz, who was not injured, walked away from the crash scene but was later found by officers, police said. A helicopter was used in the search.
