The April 8 total solar eclipse is nearly here and Fort Worth is hosting a plethora of watch parties and events for the astronomical event.
Fort Worth is in the eclipse’s path of totality and will see over two minutes of darkness around 1:41 p.m. on April 8. While still a few days out, the National Weather Service’s forecast is tracking cloudy skies for North Texas on eclipse day.
The April 8 total solar eclipse will be a once-in-a-lifetime event. Here’s where to catch a glimpse of the celestial phenomenon in Fort Worth:
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
The museum is hosting a free activity station outside its doors, along with several festivities inside.
Noble Planetarium staff will share information about the eclipse and the U.S. Navy Band Brass Quintet is set to perform. The museum’s eclipse viewing area is on the front lawn where blankets and folding chairs are allowed.
Museum members gain free admission and eclipse glasses at the event, while non-members will need to buy tickets to attend. The museum will also sell eclipse glasses at $3 a pair.

Fort Worth Botanic Garden
The garden will also have a free activity station outside its gates and plenty more inside.
A few eclipse activities include science classes with the research team, sun song bingo, pinhole viewer construction and shadow tracing. Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth will have special activities at the garden for the visually impaired.
Visitors can purchase eclipse glasses for $3 a pair and the garden’s viewing areas will be at its north and south vistas. Garden members gain free admission and eclipse glasses to the event.
According to a garden spokesperson, the garden has sold over 3,000 tickets online for eclipse festivities. A limited number of eclipse tickets will be available day-of for walk-ins.

Fort Worth Zoo
The zoo is asking guests to document how the animals act during the solar eclipse.
Upon arrival, guests will be given an observation form to document their own observations of the animals. A researcher from NC State University and his team will also be at the zoo documenting how the animals react to the eclipse.
Zookeepers will also weave in discussions on possible animal behaviors both pre- and post-eclipse during the day.

Fort Worth Stockyards
The Stockyards’ Hotel Drover is hosting a bevy of eclipse events.
A day before the eclipse on April 7, the hotel’s 97 West Kitchen & Bar is hosting a whiskey paring dinner for $250 a person. At a cocktail reception before the dinner, an astronomer from the Carnegie Institution for Science will inform guests on what to expect from the eclipse.
On April 8 eclipse day, the hotel’s outdoor patio will host live music, serve specialty cocktails and hand out eclipse glasses. This event is for hotel and restaurant guests only.
Those visiting the Stockyards on April 8, can also head to the lawn off Exchange Avenue for a free solar eclipse viewing party from noon to 3 p.m.

Texas Motor Speedway
Local TV station Univision 23 will be broadcasting live and hosting a watch party at the speedway on April 8.
Chief meteorologist Nelly Carreno and anchor Angel Pedrero will broadcast outside the venue’s Li’l Texas Motor Speedway from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission and parking to the event is free and the speedway is encouraging visitors to stop by.
Free eclipse glasses will be given out at the event.

Fort Worth Community Centers
All 22 of Fort Worth’s community centers are hosting eclipse watch parties at 1 p.m. on April 8.
Each center will have light refreshments and free eclipse glasses, and visitors are encourages to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Find your nearest community center here.

Fort Worth Public Library
The library is hosting eclipse experiences leading up to April 8.

Sundance Square
Sundance Square is hosting an eclipse viewing party in downtown on April 8.
Linny Nance & Network will perform at the event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A limited amount of eclipse glasses will be available at the event.
