H-E-B, Chinese steakhouse, Tornado Terry’s: Business opening & closing news in June

Whether it was saying goodbye to some businesses or welcoming new ones to the suburbs, the month of June featured several openings and closings in North Texas. Here’s a recap.

Fort Worth

This June, Shannon Bell, the owner of a longtime family arcade business announced that she would be closing Tornado Terry’s Family Amusement Center, located at 4530 Keller Hicks Road in Fort Worth.

The construction company has put up signs on Keller Hicks Road to indicate that Tornado Terry's is open, but it has not helped much as they have lost more than 50% of their customer base.

Bell said she is closing August 9 after losing customers due to more than two years of road construction outside of her business. Bell and her late husband had owned the business for 35 years.

Keller

In nearby Keller, the Eagle Tavern, a new sports bar located at 721 Keller Parkway #100 brings some familiar bites and some upscale items like ceviche to its menu.

The restaurant opened on June 8. General Manager Kelly Jackson told the Star-Telegram her goal is to create a third space with a fun environment and tasty food — “Home, work and The Eagle.”

Also in Keller, the city announced the opening of HOPS Kitchen and Bar, a new Chinese Steakhouse in 2027. Donny Wu and Tommy Zheng, the wife-and-husband duo who own Hush Sushi Kitchen and Bar are planning to break ground on the new restaurant in the first week of August.

Wu told the Star-Telegram that the restaurant will be a mix of authentic Chinese food, modern cuisine and aged steaks. The upscale restaurant will also have a full bar.

Southlake

At Southlake Town Square you can shop for some new home furnishings or make a flower arrangement at the newly-opened Crate and Barrel at 321 State St., in the space formerly home to the Market by Macy’s store. The retailer is back at the square, but this time as a full-line store.

Customers can get help with design and trade services, home renovation products and a gift registry.

Shoppers at the Square can now also get a facial at the Face Foundrié, a skincare company known for its facial bar.

The space features 10 service beds and the brand’s “Organic Modern” look with neutral decor, greenery, modern light fixtures and full-length curtains for privacy.
