‘Another empty spot’: This longtime Mexican restaurant in West 7th is now closed
La Familia Mexican Restaurant, located at 841 Foch St., has closed.
Members of the Fort Worth Foodies (FWF) Facebook group stirred up chatter about the restaurant closing during the weekend of Sept. 13. The La Familia website returns an error message, and its business number is disconnected as of Friday, Sept. 19.
Customers and Fort Worth Foodies group members were upset to hear the Mexican staple had closed.
In May, a FWF member called other members to support La Familia. “The Mexican restaurant I’ve been coming to since middle school is at risk of shutting down like so many other restaurants lately. Please support La Familia on Foch Street (I know, the dreaded west 7th).”
The restaurant was known for its fajitas, margaritas and salsa. FWF members recall the original owner, Al Cavazos, who would greet each customer at the door with a handshake. The La Familia margaritas came out with a flaming sugar cube. Many customers loved the “bean soup.”
La Familia opened under Cavazos in the 7th Street area in 2006 and added an additional 2,000 square feet in 2011, according to previous Star-Telegram reporting. In 2016, ownership and management shifted to Gilbert Pedroza.

FWF users also point out that the closing of La Familia means “another empty spot on Foch.”
Three other restaurants have closed in the past year in the West 7th Entertainment District. In December 2024, Bottled Blonde Pizzeria and Beer Garden closed its doors. Then followed Si Tapas in January. And shortly after, Mash’d closed in February.
