Si Tapas, a Spanish tapas restaurant from Dallas, closes in Fort Worth’s West 7th area
Si Tapas, a popular Spanish tapas restaurant in Dallas, has closed a Fort Worth location in the Artisan Circle shops off West Seventh Street.
The restaurant, known for signature small plates of garlic shrimp, paella and patatas bravas, posted on Facebook that it would take a break for Christmas weekend. But the signs have been taken down and its phone message now says the 2949 Crockett St. location is closed.
Si Tapas came to Fort Worth with the legacy of founder Ilefonso Jimenez, a co-founder of that city’s longstanding Cafe Madrid restaurant, and chef Jose Luis Lopez.
On a June visit, the Star-Telegram described the 4,700-square-foot Fort Worth Si Tapas as a “mini-Madrid” serving roast suckling pig along with a long list of vegetarian dishes.
The story quoted Jimenez saying that good Spanish food needs only “olive oil, garlic and love.” The restaurant also served Catalan-style creme brulee and homemade ice creams.
A Uptown Dallas location remains open at 2207 Allen St.
But several new restaurants in and near Artisan Circle are competing for Fort Worth dinner patrons and Cultural District museum visitors.
La Cabrona, a flashy interior Mexico restaurant and margarita bar, opened next door to Si Tapas.
Across Crockett Street, the newly reopened Terra Mediterranean is drawing a line for its daily lunch buffet and now has resumed its regular menu at night.
One block east, Umami Bistro is the new name for the former Kintaro Ramen.
Two more new restaurants are open nearby: the Chumley House, a London-style prime steakhouse, and Terry Black’s Barbecue.
The annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Jan. 17-Feb. 8 will bring more than 1 million visitors to the neighborhood.
