Popular Don Artemio steakhouse from Mexico to open new seafood restaurant in Fort Worth

Mexico’s king of steaks and cabrito has also become popular in Texas for sea bass and salmon, so chef Juan Ramón Cárdenas is about to give Fort Worth a new seafood restaurant.

Dos Mares, “From the Seas of Mexico,” will open by summer next door to Cardenas’ steakhouse, Don Artemio, in the Museum Place shops, 3260 W. Seventh St.

Dos Mares — “two seas” — is a natural neighbor for a steakhouse that also has become known for dishes such as sea bass in Oaxacan mole sauce and salmon in green pipian mole.

Cárdenas and his Fort Worth chef son, Rodrigo, will serve a beach-style menu of lobster, fish, oysters and scallops from both the Baja and Gulf beaches of Mexico, business partner Adrian Burciaga said.

“It is another dream coming true,” Burciaga said.

Don Artemio opened in 2022. It’s the first U.S. restaurant for Cárdenas, known from Netflix’s “Taco Chronicles” and from events with celebrity chef Rick Bayless.

Don Artemio is one of several Fort Worth locations seen in TV’s hit Paramount+ show “Landman.”

In episode 7, star Jon Hamm swings a deal in front of the restaurant’s wine cellar with the restaurant’s elaborate decor, all handmade in the central Mexico state of Saltillo, and ornate candleholders in view.

Dos Mares is also being finished out with a custom interior made in Saltillo.

It’s smaller than Don Artemio — about 110 seats instead of 180, Burciaga said. It will extend forward toward West Seventh Street.

The space has been vacant as the Museum Place shops have filled up with the opening of the Crescent Fort Worth hotel, offices and apartments next door.

The Chumley House, a London-style steakhouse from a Michelin-ranked Dallas company, opened last month a block away at 3230 Camp Bowie Blvd. The Blue Room, an exclusive and personal dining room, operates inside the Crescent.

“The Chumley is good for business as I expected — it’s bringing more people to the area,” Burciaga said.

A World of Beer gastropub next door also reopened last month.
