Fort Worth’s only vegan fine-dining restaurant closes after two years

Maiden Fine Plants & Spirits, Fort Worth’s only vegan fine-dining restaurant, permanently closed Monday, July 7 after falling behind on rent, according to a statement released on the restaurant’s website and social media platforms.

In the statement, Maiden staff said they were locked out of the restaurant July 7. Restaurant owners were hoping to renegotiate their lease at 1216 Sixth Ave. off of West Magnolia Avenue, where they had been located for the last two years, but were unable to pull efforts together in time.

Maiden staff said they weren’t given notice before the lockout, which is normal when rent is not paid. Staff cited six months of rising costs and slower business as reasons for their economic difficulties.

Maiden served a cruelty-free cuisine, with dishes like vegan pastas, short ribs and even eggs Benedict made solely from plant-based ingredients and no animal products. Maiden featured a $150, eight-course tasting menu with two seatings per night.

The restaurant spawned from Spiral Diner and Bakery, another 23-year-old vegan diner and bakery that remains open at 1314 W. Magnolia Ave. Also on that block, from the same owners, was Dreamboat Vegan Donuts & Scoops, which closed in March 2025 and now has their sweets being sold at Spiral.

“Maiden was more than a restaurant. It was a place for the tenderhearted,” said the statement. “A place to feel safe, seen, and nourished. We’re proud of what we built, and we’re endlessly grateful to every person who walked through our doors.”

The bigger picture: Fort Worth’s vegan food scene

In a scene of mostly Tex-Mex and barbecue, there are few vegan restaurants in Fort Worth. While restaurants may serve vegan options, other purely vegan menus include: Belenty’s Love Mexican Vegan Restaurant, The High Vegan, The Vegan Sweet Spot, Boulevard of Greens and It’s a Vegan Wrap.

Maiden is also not the only vegan restaurant in Fort Worth to close this year. Vice Burger, also on Magnolia, closed in June 2025. Pizza Verde off Camp Bowie is also preparing to close due to financial struggles. The pizzeria updates their Instagram with details.

What now for Maiden customers?

Maiden confirms that their small team of members have been offered employment elsewhere.

You can still support Maiden staff through Spiral Diner and Bakery. Spiral is closed on Mondays but open every other day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Breakfast, served until 11 a.m., includes English muffin sandwiches, tacos, pancakes and fresh donuts. They also serve smoothies and coffees. Lunch and dinner includes burgers, nachos, sandwiches, burritos, salads and bowls. For beverages they offer milkshakes, wine and beer.

The following statement was posted on Maiden’s website Monday, July 7:



“Maiden Has Closed

“We’re heartbroken to share that, as of this morning, Maiden has been locked out of our space and is now permanently closed.

“Like many independent restaurants, we’ve faced an incredibly tough six months with rising costs, a slower season, and the lasting economic effects that so many small businesses are feeling right now. We had fallen behind on rent and were hoping to renegotiate our lease and keep Maiden going in the space we’ve loved so deeply.

“Unfortunately, those efforts didn’t come together in time.

“We weren’t given notice before the lockout, and we’re still processing how abruptly this chapter has ended. It’s painful and disorienting but we know how much heart went into every part of Maiden, and how much love came back from this community in return.

“Luckily, we’ve been able to offer our small team other employment opportunities. Maiden was a team built restaurant with everyone working together towards a common goal. We are all feeling this loss deeply.

“Maiden was more than a restaurant. It was a place for the tenderhearted. A place to feel safe, seen, and nourished. We’re proud of what we built, and we’re endlessly grateful to every person who walked through our doors.

“We don’t know yet what comes next. But we’re still here. And we still believe in cruelty-free cuisine.
