This ‘Yellowstone’ character is getting their own spinoff, according to reports
It’s been more than three months since “Yellowstone” aired its season finale, but a new report suggests that at least one Dutton will return in a new series.
News broke last week that a Kayce Dutton-led series is in the works for CBS — not the Paramount Network or Paramount+. All three networks are under the same house at Paramount Global.
The report from Deadline says that Luke Grimes has agreed to reprise his role as Kayce Dutton in a procedural-style show. Details are slim on what the show is about, only that the series will likely focus on Kayce’s Navy SEAL background.
While “Yellowstone” was created by Taylor Sheridan, “SEAL Team” showrunner Spencer Hudnut is said to be spearheading the new show. Sheridan has given his approval on the series, according to Deadline.
In the “Yellowstone” season 5 finale, Kayce was last seen working cattle with his wife and son on their family ranch.
The future of ‘Yellowstone’
Beyond the Kayce Dutton series, a couple other “Yellowstone” spinoffs are in the works.
A Michelle Pfeiffer-led series called “The Madison” wrapped filming in North Texas at the end of last year. The series is described as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”
How “The Madison” is connected to “Yellowstone” has not yet been revealed.
A spinoff starring Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler is also in the works.
Actors Kelly Reilly (Beth) and Cole Hauser (Rip) have closed deals to lead the series, with Sheridan on board as well. The only other news of the spinoff is that other “Yellowstone” cast members are likely to be featured on the new show, though its unclear at this time who specifically will appear.
In the “Yellowstone” season 5 finale, Beth and Rip were last seen living on their small ranch with their (presumably) adopted son Carter (Finn Little).
News of the Beth and Rip spinoff came in December 2024 and there have not been any updates since.
All five seasons of “Yellowstone” are streaming on Peacock.
