Another ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff? New series with Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in the works
As “Yellowstone” gears up for its season 5 finale this weekend, a new report suggest the series will spin off with a couple of familiar faces.
It’s been a tumultuous last season for “Yellowstone,” after it premiered the first half of episodes in November 2022. Two Hollywood strikes and scheduling conflicts with star Kevin Costner prolonged the second half of the season, which finally began airing new episodes on the Paramount Network in November 2024.
Ahead of the season 5 finale on Dec. 15, a new report from Deadline Hollywood suggests that a spinoff is in the works focusing on the characters of Beth Dutton, who is the tough-as-nails daughter of Costner’s John Dutton, and her husband and ranch foreman Rip Wheeler.
Actors Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser have closed deals to lead the series, with creator Taylor Sheridan on board as well.
The spinoff will likely feature other “Yellowstone” cast members, though its unclear at this time who specifically will appear, according to Deadline. The series may also carry “Yellowstone” in its title.
Another season of “Yellowstone” proper is not out of the question, according to Deadline. However, since this is a spinoff, it would allow Paramount to keep the series under its umbrella of other Sheridan-created shows on Paramount+, such as “1883” and “Landman.”
NBCUniversal snatched up streaming rights for “Yellowstone” for its own service — Peacock — in January 2020. Paramount+ eventually got off the ground a year later in March 2021, but “Yellowstone” was firmly in Peacock’s control.
No release date has been set for the Beth and Rip series, although it would likely premiere after Sheridan’s other “Yellowstone” spinoff, “The Madison.”
“The Madison” is described as a “heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.”
While unclear how it connects to “Yellowstone,” “The Madison” will star Michelle Pfeiffer, Patrick J. Adams and Matthew Fox. Scenes for “The Madison” are being shot in and around Fort Worth; this week, film crews shut down part of downtown.
The “Yellowstone” season 5 finale will air Sunday on the Paramount Network. The Star-Telegram has been recapping this season and will do so again this weekend.
