TCU football in the mix for offensive lineman with offers from Texas, Texas Tech
After a busy official visit weekend, recruiting is starting to pick up for TCU football as the Horned Frogs make their best pitches to some of their key targets.
One of those recruits is 6-foot-8 offensive tackle Caleb Siler. Ranked the No. 608 prospect nationally by the 247Sports composite rankings, the three-star offensive lineman from Gunter was among the many visitors in Fort Worth last weekend.
“I had an incredible official visit at TCU this weekend,” Gunter said Monday. “This was my sixth time on campus since last year, and each time I go, I’m more impressed with the people and the program overall. I loved getting to visit with the coaches and spend time with the players and see more of the campus!”
Siler helped Gunter reach the UIL Class 3A-Division state semifinals in December and was also a part of the Tigers’ state championship team in 2024.
New TCU offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis has led the charge in Siler’s recruitment, and his background in developing offensive linemen at UConn stands out for Siler.
“Coach Sammis is a big draw for me,” Siler said. “I was in conversations with UConn before he left, so that relationship has continued to grow since he’s gotten to TCU. I’m really excited about what he is bringing in offensively for the team.”
Siler said he has also gotten close during his recruitment with head coach Sonny Dykes, co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach A.J. Ricker and assistant director of player personnel Chris Owens.
Among Siler’s obvious strengths are his 6-8, 295 pound frame that allows him to physically maul most opponents at the line of scrimmage. But the rising senior was quick to point out that there’s more to his game than just size.
“I would say that my strengths are my flexibility, my fast feet, my football IQ and my willingness to finish through every play,” Siler said.
A decision is expected soon for Siler with an upcoming mission trip on June 21. Siler said the plan is to commit before he leaves.
The Horned Frogs will have to survive a wave of upcoming visits to land Siler. He’s slated to go to Arkansas, Texas Tech and Texas before making his decision.
The keys for Siler will be finding a place that fits him on and off the field.
“I am looking for a school that plays big-time football and also has elite academics,” Siler said. “But beyond that, I’m looking for a place that can develop me both as a player and as a person. So the coaching staff will be absolutely critical for me.”
TCU has four commitments in the class of 2027, including three-star Crowley offensive lineman Alexander Herrera, who committed to the program Friday.
