How big is ‘very large hail?’ Here’s what to know about hail sizes in North Texas
The National Weather Service Fort Worth said “very large hail” is expected in North Texas late Wednesday, April 2.
How big is “very large hail” and does that equate to an actual measurement? NWS meteorologist Sarah Barnes said there are not any hard and fast rules when using those terms and it varies by forecaster.
However, when talking about “very large hail,” Barnes said typically that relates to hail around 2 inches in size.
“Typically, that’s more in the ballpark of golf ball [size] or 2 inches or greater,” Barnes said.
