A strong cold front will arrive in North Texas on Thursday, sending temperatures into the single digits and wind chills below zero behind 30 to 40 mph winds and gusts up to 45 mph.
The freezing weather could last until Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday’s high will reach 42 before the cold front arrives around noon, sending temperatures into the 20s. Some light snow might accompany the cold front but no impacts are anticipated, the National Weather Service said. The overnight low will fall to 9. The highest gusts are expected Thursday morning and into the afternoon. The windy conditions should continue into Friday.
Prepare for the hazardous weather now: cover your exterior faucets, drip indoor faucets and open cabinets under sinks to protect pipes from freezing, the Weather Service said in its hazardous weather outlook.
Dangerous wind chills in the teens to below zero are expected Thursday through Saturday.
Temperatures falling into the lower 20s in the afternoon. Wind chill values as low as zero in the afternoon.
Friday will be sunny with highs in the mid-20s and wind chills as low as 10 below zero in the morning. Lows Friday night will be 15 to 20. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the lower 30s and an overnight low around 20. Christmas Day will see a slight warm up with highs in the lower 40s.
