Since 1894, Labor Day has been observed on the first Monday of September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The annual holiday is to celebrate to the “social and economic achievements of American workers.”
While most federal and state offices will be closed for Labor Day, what about liquor stores? Here’s what to know.
Are Texas liquor stores open on Labor Day?
Yes, liquor stores are allowed to be open on Labor Day, according to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code.
Liquor stores are only required to be closed on Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If Christmas or New Year’s Day falls on a Sunday, stores have to close the following Monday.
Since Labor Day is celebrated on Mondays, liquor stores are free to stay open. Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods and Total Wine & More will both be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.
Can Texas grocery and convenience stores sell alcohol on Labor Day?

Texas law says stores are allowed to sell alcohol from 7 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday.
