Republican Douglas Allen and Democrat John Brender face off in the race for judge of Tarrant County’s Criminal District Court No. 3 in November. The court is one of 11 criminal district courts that handles adult felony cases for the county.
Allen was appointed to the role of Criminal District Court No. 3 judge by Gov. Greg Abbott in January 2023. He previously served as assistant district attorney in Tarrant County and as an assistant United States attorney. According to his website, his priority is “establishing a fair, efficient, and professional judicial environment where justice is the cornerstone for all participants.” His campaign did not respond to messages seeking responses to the Star-Telegram’s candidate questionnaire.
Brender served as an assistant district attorney in Dallas County for more than 6 years. He practices law in Fort Worth and has worked as both a prosecutor and defense attorney. According to his website, his priority is “to rid our Tarrant County streets of violent criminals and drug pushers while taking the time to deal with our community’s mental health and safety of our kids.” His campaign did not respond to messages seeking responses to the Star-Telegram’s candidate questionnaire.
