After all those Christmas presents have been opened, having your trash picked up is one of the next things to do this holiday season.

But scheduled trash collection dates will be delayed by a day for Fort Worth residents due to the New Year’s holiday.

The city said regular pickups will see a minor change during New Year’s week.

“If your normal pickup day is Wednesday, your pickup will be shifted to Thursday; Thursday service shifts to Friday; Friday service shifts to Saturday,” the city said in a statement on its website. “Bulk collections resume Thursday, January 2. Normal collections are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, December 30-31.”

Regular operating schedules for all collections will resume on Monday, January 6.

To help with holiday disposal needs, all residents are allowed to have two additional bags of trash picked up on their first collection day after Christmas and New Year’s Day, free of cost.

The city said the two extra bags should be placed on the curb next to your brown garbage cart on the designated collection day. Officials advise that the bags must not be larger than a typical 32-gallon kitchen trash bag.

What if my trash isn’t picked up?

Extra bags will be picked up by a different truck on collection days and could be picked up at different times than your carts, according to the city.

“Please be patient and don’t call to report a missing pickup if your carts or additional bags aren’t picked up at the same time. Please use the MyFW app or call the 311 Fort Worth Contact Center at 817-392-1234 if there is a problem,” officials said.

What if I have more than two bags of extra trash?

Residents can bring bulk waste, yard waste, recycling and extra rubbish to the city’s four Drop-Off Station locations.

On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, the Environmental Collection Center and the four Drop-Off Stations in the City will be closed.

Another option is to buy Pay Bags, which are $15 plus tax and come in bundles of five, and will be mailed to you and charged to your water bill account. Call 817-392-1234 to place an order.
