A drone company says it can deliver DoorDash meals to Dallas-Fort Worth doorsteps in mere minutes.

Wing announced on Wednesday, Dec. 18, that it had partnered with DoorDash and Brookfield Properties on the drone delivery service. The service is launching from Brookfield’s properties at the Hulen Mall in Fort Worth and Stonebriar Centre in Frisco.

The service’s goal, which Wing says is the first of its kind for American shopping malls, is to deliver meals and items through DoorDash to Dallas-Fort Worth doorsteps in as little as 15 minutes.

Wing’s drones can fly up to 65 mph with a cruising height of about 150 feet, before lowering the delivery to the ground.

Over 50 merchants will be available for drone delivery through DoorDash’s app, according to Wing. To use drone delivery, DoorDash users must have an eligible Dallas-Fort Worth address in range, which they can check here.

If eligible, customers can select drone delivery on the DoorDash checkout page. Once the order is placed, it will be prepared, packaged and delivered by a Wing drone.

“We are proud to be the first landlord to provide drone delivery as another avenue to help our tenants serve our communities,” said Katie Kurtz, senior vice president of business development at Brookfield Properties. “We’re committed to meeting the changing needs of the ways people shop.”

Concerns of drone incursions in parts of New Jersey and other American cities have made national headlines over the past few weeks, including this week in White Settlement.

A Wing spokesperson says they have been operating in Dallas-Fort Worth since 2021 and the recent headlines have no connection to the company.

“There is no connection between our operations and the recent sightings in New Jersey,” a Wing spokesperson told the Star-Telegram. “The commercial drone industry is closely regulated and additional rules continue to develop. Wing operates under an FAA Part 135 Air Carrier and Operator certificate, and we only operate in approved areas.”

Wing said it also complies with Federal Aviation Administration requirements on remote identification, to ensure local enforcement are aware of when flights occur.

Additionally, Wing said it operates in parts of Texas, Virginia and California. The company also does not operate at night.
