“Landman” star Billy Bob Thornton has been nominated for a Golden Globe for his work on the Fort Worth-filmed series.

Nominations for the 82nd annual Golden Globes were announced early Monday, Dec. 9. Next year’s ceremony is set for Jan. 5, 2025, at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.

Thornton was among the six nominated for best performance by a male actor in a drama television series.

A Golden Globe nomination is nothing new for Thornton, who has seven career nods from the organization.

His first nomination came in 1999 for the film “A Simple Plan,” with other nominations coming for films such as “Bandits,” “The Man Who Wasn’t There” and “Bad Santa.” Thornton has also won two Golden Globes for his work in “Fargo” and “Goliath.”

Thornton’s “Landman” nomination was the sole entry for the Paramount+ series, which premiered on Nov. 17.

The series is described as a “modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.” Thornton’s Tommy Norris serves as a crisis manager for a large oil company based in West Texas.

In May, the Star-Telegram visited the Fort Worth set of “Landman” and spoke with Thornton about his role.

“The character is a mix of me and [series creator Taylor Sheridan], frankly,” Thornton said. “The scripts were brilliant and it wasn’t like I had to make a decision. I read it and I’m like, ‘Absolutely.’”

Sheridan’s shows have been nominated for a handful of Golden Globes over the years.

“Yellowstone” picked up its sole nomination and win in 2023, when Kevin Costner took home the award for best performance by a male actor in a drama television series.

At the 2024 ceremony, “1923” was nominated for best drama series and Helen Mirren picked up a nod for best performance by a female actor in a drama television series. At same ceremony, David Oyelowo was nominated for his role in “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.”

Sheridan himself was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2017 for writing “Hell or High Water.”

“Landman” airs new episodes weekly on Sundays on Paramount+.
