Disagreement over watch led to fatal shooting in North Richland Hills, cops say

An argument over a wristwatch led to the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old Dallas mother at Malibu Jack’s amusement park in North Richland Hills, according to new details of the murder investigation released on Tuesday.

The victim, DaShayla Jones, was shot and killed in the entertainment center’s parking lot early Sunday morning, and an 18-year-old suspect was arrested.

The suspect, Tychriston Reed of Fort Worth, was taken into custody in a nearby city after he fled the scene, North Richland Hills police said.

Investigators said that parties involved in the argument were leaving the indoor amusement park when Reed assaulted an employee, unprovoked, while making his way outside. Police say Reed then opened fire in the parking lot, killing Jones, wounding a 23-year-old Dallas man and also shooting at off-duty officers who were working at the business. Police have said they don’t think Reed and Jones knew each other, and it’s unclear whether he targeted her.

DaShayla Jones, 21, of Dallas was killed, and an 18-year-old suspect was arrested after a shooting early Sunday morning, Sept. 7, at Malibu Jack’s amusement park in North Richland Hills, police said.

Reed faces nine charges including murder, two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of reckless endangerment of a child.

The charges of reckless endangerment of children are because Reed is accused of firing a gun in a parking lot where children were present, North Richland Hills police spokesperson Carissa Katekaru said.

Investigators also shared that Jones’ 4-year-old son was among the children present on the night of the shooting.

Reed may face additional charges for the assault on the Malibu Jack’s employee, police said.
