A 21-year-old woman was killed and a teenage suspect was arrested in a shooting early Sunday morning at Malibu Jack’s amusement park in North Richland Hills, police said.

The victim who died was DaShayla Jones, a 21-year-old woman from Dallas. She was pronounced dead in the parking lot of the business and was identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

A 23-year-old man from Dallas was wounded in the shooting. He was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation found that there was an altercation between several people before shots were fired at the amusement park, at 8651 Airport Freeway, shortly after midnight, police said in a news release.

Two North Richland Hills police officers were working off-duty at Malibu Jack’s at the time of the shooting. One officer returned fire at the shooter, and the second officer was able to apply a tourniquet to the male victim before medics arrived, police said.

Investigators took three 18-year-old men into custody, but after reviewing evidence and witness statements, they determined that only one of them is believed to be a suspect in the homicide.

That suspect, Tychriston Reed of Fort Worth, faces nine charges including murder, two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts of reckless endangerment of a child. Reed will be booked into the Tarrant County Jail for a formal arraignment after a judge reviewed the case for probable cause Monday morning at the North Richland Hills Detention Facility.

Detectives said they recovered a gun that they believe is the murder weapon.

The other two 18-year-olds who were arrested remain in custody on unrelated charges.
